April 3

Dear 5-3,

There is a lot of information here, so if anything is unclear, please email Ms. Leavitt directly. kmleavitt@cbe.ab.ca.

Thank you for your patience as we are working through some necessary planning in preparation to resume structured learning opportunities for your child.  We are working hard to better understand the technology and how it can best serve your child's learning.

The grade five team will be posting a plan on their classroom blog every Friday. Each week’s plan will
include information about the activities and tasks to be completed by 9:00 am the following Friday.
Posting the plans on Fridays will give students and their parents the opportunity to plan the week ahead
in a way that best suits their current learning environment as we understand that students may need to
share resources such as computer access with siblings or their parents. Based on the guidelines given
to us, there is an expectation that students in grade five will be completing five hours of schoolwork per
week which will be split evenly between Maths, ELA and FLA at this time.

The grade five team will be offering weekly student tutorial times through Google Meet. This is a virtual
face to face meeting time for students to ask questions and get help in a "live" classroom setting from their
teacher. As we are still figuring out the best way to approach this new endeavour, it is possible that the
schedule could change. We will be sure to communicate any changes through the blog. These tutorial
sessions are intended for students to reach out to get help from their teachers.  We would ask parents to
reach out via email. We will be checking our emails during the regular school hours: 8:00-2:30, Monday to
Friday, and will make every attempt to respond in a reasonable time frame.

Even though we are switching our classroom platform to Google Classroom, reports on progress will
remain on PowerSchool.

Introducing Mme. Monique
Mme. Monique, who many of you are not familiar with, is a teacher assigned to grade 5 at this time to
provide extra help. She is a very valuable member of the team as she is skilled in both languages and
all subject areas. She will have a weekly tutorial time where she can support students in any subject
area with help to read assignments, help to break down assignments into smaller pieces or just general
help with the workload.

Google Meet Tutorial Time: Monday 11:00-11:30 Code: MmeMoniqueGr5

Getting Onto Google Classroom
Students will have to enrol in each of their Google Classrooms on their own, which is a little different from the instructions on the link below.  Once students have located "Classroom" on the Google suite apps (check link below if unsure how to get there), click on the "join class" icon in the upper right corner that looks like a "+" sign.  You will be prompted to enter a class code, enter it and join.  Do that 3 times: once for for Mme. Turcotte's classroom (class code: c37zn4v), once for Mme. Poirier's classroom (class code: oab2qci), and once for Ms. Leavitt's classroom (class code: k5amp3y).

Getting Onto Google Meet
Make sure students are already logged onto their Google account.  Find the Google Meet icon in the Google suite apps, or use the hyperlink here Google Meet.  You may need to download the app if you are using a mobile device or tablet. Once in Google Meet, they need to click on "join or start meeting" where they will be prompted to enter a code.  Enter the code for the meeting they want to join, click "continue", click on "join now", and student is all set for the meeting.

Student Services (Mme Plante)

Dear DTS students,

Wow, this is quite a change! I would love to hear from you. I want to know how you are doing. Whether it’s to give me a quick update or to have a conversation, I want you to know, I am here to support you. We can communicate by email.  This is for all students; this is a safe space where you can talk and express yourself. I will do my best to support you in any way I can. maplante@cbe.ab.ca
